Discipleship Walk
Related to the Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus and Great Banquet spiritual renewal movements, the Discipleship Walk is a three-day weekend experience that allows individuals to gain a more meaningful, renewed and relevant walk with Christ.
As a result of this experience, participants come to better understand what it means to be a disciple of Christ. Many who have attended consider this weekend as one of the most meaningful experiences of their life.
The Discipleship Walk began at Northview in 1989 and since that time has continued to grow with both adult and youth weekends. There are currently a total of six Discipleship Walk communities in Indiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
The weekend consists of a series of talks, group discussions, worship and chapel times, entertainment and fellowship. The adult weekends begin late afternoon Thursday and conclude mid-afternoon Sunday. The Youth Walk begins Saturday and runs through Monday of Labor Day weekend.
The Discipleship Walk is designed for those who have made a commitment to Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
Statement of Purpose: Christian discipleship is a response to our recognition of Gods immense love for us; it is a continual process of allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us daily through a recognition and choice of Christs will rather than our own. Through these small but significant changes in our daily lives, we can in fact live as modern-day disciples of Christ.
The Discipleship Walk strives to provide the setting where individuals can clearly see and understand Gods love and in turn, grow in their responses to that great love. The first full day speaks to God reaching out to us. Its a reminder of Gods longing for a relationship with us and of our responsibility to build a foundation for that relationship.
The second day explores both the challenges and the benefits of discipleship in the 21st century. It is ultimately a day of encouragement, and one in which the participants get to build relationships with each other and experience Christian community in tangible ways.
The third day centers upon preparing for discipleship in the world in which we live. Participants are sent back to where they came from with the desire, knowledge and tools necessary to make a difference in their world.
In summary, it is the intention of the Discipleship Walk to provide a unique experience that allows individuals who desire a more meaningful, renewed and relevant walk with Christ to accomplish exactly that in three short days.
